Being injured in a car accident can be an extremely painful and frightening experience, not only for those involved in the accident, but for their families as well. When a car accident involves multiple family members, it is even more devastating, especially if one or more of those family members die as a result of the accident. Should the underlying cause of that fatal car accident be attributed to one family member driving while intoxicated or impaired (DWI), the emotional and physical pain is exponentially compounded. Unfortunately, such was the case in one accident which took place in the early morning hours of Saturday, February 18, 2013.
According to police reports, 20-year-old Marian Hubbard was driving along Route 20 with her cousins, 19-year-old Nicole Hubbard and 18-year-old Alicia Hubbard, when around 2am, her car allegedly crossed over into oncoming traffic, hit a guardrail, and rolled down the embankment, ejecting all three passengers. Alicia, who had apparently been sitting in the backseat of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. Marian and Nicole sustained undisclosed injuries and were transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital for treatment. Although the accident, and events that led up to it, are still under investigation, police have since charged the driver, Marion Hubbard, with DWI.
Driving while intoxicated or impaired is illegal in the state of New York. In the eyes of the law, anyone found to have a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08% or more is considered to be legally intoxicated and should not be behind the wheel of an automobile.
